Fibre Fusion: Circular Manufacturing of Water Repelling Bacterial Cellulose Through a Biological Approach

A new project working alongside PI Dr Meng Zhang, and Co-I’s Paul James and Yunhong Jiang to address hydrophobicity for bacterial cellulose based textiles using recombinant hydrophobic proteins. We will develop a proof of principle which addresses the whole life cycle of bacterial cellulose based textiles from the integration of biological molecules into production, through the properties of the materials and their robustness in life to their end-of-life biodegradability.
