Textile Waste for Future Feedstock

We have produced a new vision for textile waste in the North East! With insights from experts including Waste Strategy at Newcastle City Council, the NUCORE in Industrial Biotechnology at Newcastle University, the North East Recycling Network and ReLondon, Textile Waste to Future Feedstock presents a visual manifesto for the future of textile waste in North East England. Whilst identifying the challenges and complexity of end-of-life textiles that enter the residual waste stream, this manifesto locates textile waste as feedstock for a larger regional ecosystem transformed by biotechnology. This manifesto maps the routes for textile waste to feed future biomaterials for textiles and construction.

This research was carried out by the Living Textiles Research Group in the Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment at Newcastle University for Back to Baselines in Circular Fashion and Textiles, part of the UKRI Network Plus Circular Fashion and Textiles programme.
